If you’re roughly between the ages of 18 and 25, the Citroen C1 Airscape is probably the most ideally suited vehicle for you. That said, if you have a young adult who has just left school, entering college, or the working world, the C1 would be an excellent car to add to the ‘browsing’ list before you go ahead and begin your shop.
On first impression, this funky little four door hatch appears to be tight for space on the outside, but will comfortably fit four individuals of average height (5ft. , 7in). Legroom isn’t too much of an issue in the rear, however, long trips up the coast may prove a little tedious. Boot space is a mere 196litres and rear seats split 50/50 with full access to your goodies in the back, giving you a complete rear space of 780litres.
So all in all, this is a perfect little car for city driving; to and from work and/or school, and will give you amazing consumption even in the worst stop-go traffic situations. Citroen claim their lowest is 4.3l/100km, but we managed to see a low of 5.6l/100km and about 400km odd from the 35l fuel tank.
The little 1.2litre, 3-cylinder VTi 82 Puretech petrol engine is pokey, raspy and goes well. Kicking out 60kW of power through the 5-speed manual gearbox, the whole idea of the C1 is to be as efficient and eco-friendly as possible, but with enough go to get you where you need to be in a pinch.
The trendy 15” alloy wheels makes handling fun; you genuinely feel as though you’re seated snugly within a go-kart type ride, especially since the ride comfort itself is decent and you never feel totally unsettled in long, sweeping bends at speed.
Aesthetically, there is so much about the little Citroen C1 that attracts the attention of the outside world; no matter where you drive, people are always doing double-takes and staring – sometimes even initiating conversation about the funky little design.
The retractable roof is an obvious statement, but the overall design is attractive and eye-catching.
Interior is just as attractive, but is super functional, too, with cool features such as integrated mirror screen technology which, once linked with your smart phone, mirrors your device on the vehicles 7inch dashboard screen. Once hooked up via USB, You can easily access and control the full range of MirrorLink and AppinCar compatible apps from the interface: navigation, phone, address book, music, web radio – and any other useful driving apps. Everything is easy to set up and navigate, and in arm’s length of both driver and passenger.
Further throughout the C1 Airscape, you’ll find all the daily essentials, and a few unexpected extras, all neatly tucked into a funky colour-coded interior: Power Steering, daytime running LED lights, air conditioning, six air bags, ABS, EBD, IsoFIX seats for child safety, brake assist, stability control, and an array of ingenious storage spaces.
We really enjoyed our time with the Citroen C1 Airscape, and what is there not to love when, in this segment, it offers style, practicality, comfort, is user-friendly, eco-friendly and is just pleasant to spend your time in overall?
On the C1, Citroen offers a three-year or 100 000km warranty (service plans and maintenance plans are optional, with intervals of 20 000km).
