Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 Elite

The new Hyundai Santa Fe is one of those mid-size SUV’s that often get overlooked in the segment. Not sure why, because it has great looks and an imposing wheelbase that gives it a beefy stance.
Now the Santa Fe is distinctively Hyundai. Even from the moon, there is no mistaking it. There is also no pretence that this is not a vehicle you go off-roading in, although, it will handle any dirt road with ease.

The higher than average quality interior is has a bunch of great features, including a nifty multimedia setup with premium quality sound. The dash layout is somewhat contemporary and looks attractive and features dual zone climate control. The front seats are electrically adjustable with the drivers including lumbar support. There are also front seat heaters, a HUGE tilt and slide sunroof and plenty of room in the back. Speaking of the back, possibly the best feature is the reclining rear seats, making the sky and star gazing a pleasure. The rear loading area is a mammoth 1003L with the seats up and 2025l with the second row folded down.
The engine, in my opinion, is still a real gem. The 2.2 CRD makes a very driveable 145kw and 436nm from a low 1800rpm. The engine is extremely responsive and is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Our overall fuel economy was around 8l/100km and our best open road figures were around the mid 6’s, Something I thought that was unheard of in an SUV of this size. Top speed is around the 200kph mark and it will get there rather quickly too.
The relatively light (1800kg) Santa Fe sits on 19” alloys and gives a compliant and predictable drive. The suspension damping is a little more focused to the sports side than comfort but I find it suits the personality of the vehicle well. The Santa Fe can also tow a maximum load of 2 tons braked. It also has 6 airbags, Side impact beams, traction/stability control and obviously ABS and brake assist.

With all that the Santa Fe offers and it really offers a lot, I can’t seem to think why it gets overlooked. It has a high-quality interior with all the specs you need, not to mention space. It even features Hyundai’s new 7 years 200 000km Manufacturer’s warranty, including a 5 year 160 000km perforation warranty, a 5 year 150 000km roadside assist and a 5 year 90 000km service plan.
The Santa Fe 2.2 retails for R684 900
