- Jaguar F-TYPE has enjoyed great sales success in the first half of 2015
- SA’s most popular two-seater
- Award-winning F-TYPE in high demand
Pretoria, 30 July 2015 – The Jaguar F-TYPE is South Africa’s most popular sports car, handily outselling its two-seater competitors from Germany, Japan and Italy. So far, in 2015, sales of the F-TYPE place it well in the lead – and with the recent introduction of the F-TYPE R Coupé with all-wheel drive (AWD), buyers now have another excellent option to choose from when they’re shopping for a car that demonstrates the art of performance.
“F-TYPE has been a popular choice in its segment, since its launch, yet it remains exclusive,” says Lisa Mallett, Marketing and Communications Director of Jaguar Land Rover South Africa and sub-Sahara Africa. “With an eye-catching design, which won it a World Car of the Year award for design, F-TYPE buyers can have a car that lets them stand out. Its stunning exterior is complemented by a beautifully finished interior, and its selection of powerful engines make the F-TYPE a true iconic sports car. ”
Introduced in 2013, the F-TYPE has been popular with local buyers, attracting new customers to the Jaguar brand. Nearly 600 F-TYPEs have been sold between launch and June 2015. Of those, more than 100 units were sold in the first six months of this year, while its nearest competitor shifted 70 units during the same period.
It has also been on the receiving end of numerous other accolades. The F-TYPE trophy cabinet boasts more than twenty awards from all over the world, where it has been honoured with titles that include Car of the Year, Coupé of the Year, Convertible of the Year, Best Performance Car, and Dream Car.
F-TYPE buyers can choose between three convertible and four coupé variants, as well as supercharged V6 and V8 engines offering between 250kW and 405kW of power. The F-TYPE Convertible has proven most popular with buyers, since launch, with 65% of sales accounting for the topless model. Accounting for 9% of all F-TYPE sales is the F-TYPE R Coupé, the current South African land-speed record-holder for production cars, with a recorded speed of 294.68km/h. An elite number of these cars have been specified with a carbon fibre roof and Jaguar’s high-performance carbon ceramic brake system, which provides the ultimate in braking confidence.
The three most popular colour choices are Polaris White, Rhodium Silver, and Italian Racing Red, while the most-chosen interior options were the supportive performance seats and luxurious premium leather interior.
Unsurprisingly, many buyers have also opted for the Switchable Active Sports Exhaust. Quiet and refined at highway speed, the F-TYPE’s exhaust note can be altered at the touch of a button. Once activated, an electronic valve in the exhaust system opens up to let drivers enjoy the cacophonous roar of the F-TYPE’s mighty engine at full chat. This adds to the excitement as drivers accelerate to 100km/h in as little as 4.1 seconds, turning every drive into an occasion, with the soundtrack of a purebred sports car to accompany it.
“Later this year five special F-TYPEs will be added to the sales figures, as Special Vehicle Operations’ F-TYPE Project 7 makes its way to South Africa,” says Mallett. “With only 250 ever being made, Project 7 will be something very special for motoring connoisseurs who want the ultimate F-TYPE, and the ultimate in exclusivity.”
